Dear Reader,
Welcome to the very first issue of Eutelle.
The name carries with it both gratitude and meaning. It is borrowed, with her blessing, from a woman named Eutelle — pronounced “you-tell.”

The sound alone captures what this magazine is about: telling. Telling family stories, telling heritage stories, telling the stories that live between us and outlast us. Each telling places our voices into the stream of memory, so that what we carry is never lost but carried forward.
At its heart, Eutelle lives where genealogy meets cultural heritage. It’s not just about charts, records, and dates — though those matter. It’s about how roots find their expression in culture, tradition, and place. It’s about how the story of a village becomes the story of a family, and how the memory of one generation becomes the legacy of the next.
It feels especially fitting, then, that our first issue carries the theme ‘Throughlines‘ — the threads that connect past to present, person to place, and memory to meaning. This issue also marks a milestone close to home: the 185th anniversary of Rock Hall, first established when its very first plot was purchased in September 1840. From September 2025 through September 2026, Eutelle will serve as the digital home for Rock Hall’s 185th commemoration, telling its stories, gathering memories from the community and diaspora, and keeping its history alive.
As we begin this journey together, I hope you won’t just read these stories, but see yourself in them — and perhaps be inspired to share your own.
In keeping with the spirit of Eutelle, the editorial voice you’ll hear in these opening letters will sign off as Your Editorial Steward. It’s less about authority and more about care — holding space for our collective memories, guiding you through the stories we share, and ensuring they’re preserved with dignity and warmth. Think of it as a gentle hand on the shoulder as we walk this journey together.
With heritage and connection,
Your Editorial Steward
